Interior Residential // Hamburg 2024

The fusion of art and life is the central design theme of the apartment in Schwanenwik in Hamburg. The owner's works of art are far more than just decorative elements - they provide an insight into his personality and are intended to blend harmoniously into the surroundings. The aim was therefore to create an atmosphere that reflects a lively dialog between art and everyday life.

The old apartment from the Wilhelminian era with its elaborate stucco details, herringbone parquet flooring and a historic sandstone fireplace breathes history. At the same time, the four-metre-high ceilings, the large windows overlooking the Outer Alster and the modern interior design create a spacious and modern atmosphere that gives the owner's art collection the space it needs to flourish. The double-leaf wooden sliding doors create spaciousness when required, but can also create privacy.

The minimalist furnishing concept and the color scheme in light cream and beige tones is timeless and highlights works of art such as those by Francis Bacon, Christopher Wool and Picasso. Individual pieces of furniture become works of art themselves, such as the chandelier by Roll & Hill above the dining table in the bay window, the armchairs by Pierre Jeanneret or the custom-made coffee table made of Calacatta Viola, whose cushion shape creates an exciting contrast between appearance and materiality. The console in the dining room - also made of Calacatta Viola - serves as a shelf for drinks at dinner parties and at the same time becomes a minimalist art object that gives the room additional structure.
